I Sold Another Novel: My First YA Novel

I just sold my first YA novel! This is the second novel I sold in 2026. Selling two novels in 2026 was my audacious goal on my vision board this year, so you can imagine, I’m thrilled.

The book is called Second Chances, and I actually I wrote it more than 15 years ago. I honestly forgot about it for a little while. But when I turned my attention back to writing fiction when I moved to Spain, I pulled it out, dusted it off and realized I still loved this story.

I could have thrown this manuscript out. Given up on it because it was too old. Or even tried to add a dragon to the storyline to make it meet today’s trends.

But I didn’t.

Not only did I leave the book exactly how I’d written it all those years ago, but when I compare it to the adult novel I just wrote, I realize that I am building a library of domestic dramas with similar themes. It’s like I’ve known all along what I was trying to do with my writing life.

I love this for me. It’s like my own personal validation that taking myself seriously as a novelist was the right thing to do.

Second Chances will be published by Akashic Books in Fall 2027.
